Executive Level Problem Solver

For executive management to successfully guide a company, it needs HR controls just like a pilot needs controls to guide a ship. Mason Dickerson has the experience and wisdom to make the tough decisions that companies need to put HR controls in place to increase company profitability.

The following three success stories illustrate the leadership and skill of Mason Dickerson in providing Human Resource solutions:

Success Story #1 - Turnover Rate Cut in Half – Profits Up

A leading southern California equipment sales and service company was suffering from excessive turnover among a key employee group, losing almost half (48%) of their service technicians each year. They asked Mason to help stem the exodus.

A review of the pay practices revealed that there was little correlation between the actual skill level or performance of the technicians and the pay they received.

Mason designed and implemented a Skill-Based Pay Plan that directly tied pay to the attainment of additional skills. Once the pay classifications and the criteria for achieving promotions were established, the grumbling and the exodus stopped. Today the turnover rate is below industry norm and the company has set records in profitability.

Success Story #2 - Major Reduction in Workers’ Comp Costs

A 225-employee client with a majority of its employees working in high hazard jobs had an accident frequency record 34% above the norm for its industry. Mason helped reverse the accident rate and reduce Workers’ Comp costs by initiating a Safety Awareness Program and implementing a Safety Incentive Program.

Lost-time accident frequency was reduced to zero the next year. The client will see major savings in future Workers’ Comp rates as a result of their improved safety record.

Success Story #3 - HR Department Turnaround Improved Productivity

A client company in the retail business had an HR/Payroll department that was not performing. Payroll errors and slow responses concerning benefits questions adversely affected employee morale and retention. Store managers generally viewed the corporate office as a hindrance to their success.

Mason was hired to assess the department and recommend changes. His audit revealed the department lacked the appropriate customer service attitude and goals were poorly defined. Mason coached the group to redefine themselves as a support group with important customers to serve rather than perform primarily as “compliance officers”. He also led them to establish clearly defined and measurable goals and objectives that met their customers’ needs.

His recommendations included reorganizing the staff and upgrading the skills of some key positions. He helped recruit much-needed talent for the department. Payroll errors were dramatically reduced and “customer satisfaction” completely turned around. Productivity was improved.

"Finding Mason was truly a godsend. As a consultant he supported changes that I always knew we needed but did not have the courage or experience to implement.

He led us through a difficult restructuring and helped align our performance reviews with our compensation plan to achieve company objectives.

I have the peace of mind knowing that Mason is only a phone call away in helping me with the next big challenge (or crisis)."
 - Leon Zekaria, President, Retail Clothing Chain

"As a smaller company, we do not require a full time HR executive, yet we often have need for executive level advice and support. Mason has provided excellent guidance and counsel on a wide range of HR related issues, including compensation, training, benefits administration, and collective bargaining.

But he is not just an advisor; he is a doer (quite rare for a consultant!). Mason is the perfect solution for our company, providing fulltime expertise on a part time basis, at a price we can afford.

We view Mason as an extension of our executive management team."
 - Tim Cleary, President, Material Handling Equipment Dealer

"Mason redesigned our performance evaluation forms to be results-focused and much more user-friendly. Now our appraisal process runs smoothly and we actually measure what we need to measure."
- Tom Labrador, VP, Administration
